About Larry Jo Goss
My dad was the senior corpsman of Kilo 3/9. He and his corpsmen served their Marines on the front lines in the Quang Tri Province of Vietnam. My dad lost his life during a battle while responding to the call of “Corpsman up.” My dad was killed by a grenade while treating PFC Frederick Bungartz, a 19 year old Marine from Wisconsin. My dad and nine Marines were left on the battlefield for 21 days.
My dad was determined to do his job to the best of his ability to help the most people. He wrote these words and many others in beautiful love letters to my mom. He wanted desperately to come back home to my mom and me. He had a cheerful disposition and a deep love for his family. His work ethic and caring heart were second to none. I miss him everyday and thank God that Doc Goss is my dad.
My dad left a legacy of love that is shared in the book “Kiss Lori For Me.” My dad ended many of his letters home with those words. He is a hero of immense proportion. We honor his sacrifice by loving others as deeply as he did. He gave his life in service to his country. May we all serve others as selflessly as he did. I love you dad! Mom’s love for you is undying to this day.
