About James Gregory Ryan Sartor

Sergeant Major James Sartor joined the Army in 2001 as an infantryman where he was quickly deployed to Iraq in 2002. He continuously advanced in his military career, being selected for the Special Forces Qualification Course where he earned his Green Beret and was assigned to 10th Special Forces Group where he served the next 14 years. He deployed multiple times, including to Iraq, Germany, Israel, Africa, and Afghanistan. Sartor died during combat operations in Faryab Province, Afghanistan.

“Ryan was a beloved warrior who epitomized the quiet professional. He led his soldiers from the front,” said Col. Brian R. Rauen, commander of the 10th Special Forces Group. Sartor received more than two dozen awards and decorations, including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

Ryan was a highly decorated soldier and born leader! But his legacy as a Christian and testimony for Christ is eternal.
