Second Lieutenant Peter Haskell Burks joined the U.S. Army in 2006. He received many honors in his training courses, and his fellow soldiers considered him a fearless leader and man of integrity. Burks graduated President of his OCS and was invited to Ranger School. He deployed to Iraq with 4/2 Stryker Cavalry Regiment. He died in Baghdad of wounds suffered when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device.
Pete was no ordinary leader. He used his warm personality and keen sense of humor to inspire others. He received numerous awards, ribbons, and medals, including the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Combat Action Badge.
Peter Burks died doing what he wanted to be doing with no regrets. He loved and was loved by many.
