About Tristan N. Aitken
Army Capt. Tristan N. Aitken, died April 4, 2003 whilst serving during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 41st Field Artillery, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.
Tristan Aitken embodied the very best of leadership and service. He did not serve for glory. He served because duty called, and answering that call — completely, selflessly, and with exceptional grace — was simply who he was.
The grief carried by those who loved him — his family, his fellow soldiers, his community — is a measure of the profound impression he made in a life lived with purpose and integrity. Aitken was awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.
