About Joseph Suponcic

On Dec 15, 1999, SSG ‘Joey’ Suponcic of the 3rd Battalion/10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) was killed, when the HMMWV in which he was a passenger struck an anti-tank mine planted by the Albanians and meant for the Russian contingent with which SSG Suponcic’s team was patrolling in Kosovska Kamernica.
From the time he was a little boy, Joseph Suponcic wanted to be a soldier. “It’s all he ever wanted to do, and I guess Special Forces was his ultimate goal,” his brother Brian said. Suponcic was part of the Army’s 10th Special Forces based at Fort Carson, Colo. In Kosovo, he was a liaison between American and Russian peacekeepers.
Today, we honor Army Staff Sgt. Joseph E. Suponcic as a symbol of the enduring Green Beret legacy—marked by strength, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to duty. May his legacy inspire future generations of Green Berets to carry the torch of service, embodying the values that define this elite and honorable brotherhood.
