North Fork communities mark 25 years since 9/11

September 17, 2026

Northforker

Twenty-five years after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, North Fork communities will come together to honor those who were lost and remember the events that changed a nation.

Riverhead Town will begin the local observances at 10 a.m. Sept. 11 with its 25th Anniversary 9/11 Memorial Ceremony at the World Trade Center Memorial Park at Edwards and Riley avenues in Calverton. The ceremony will honor those who died in the attacks and recognize the first responders and recovery workers who served in their aftermath.

That evening, the Sound Park Heights Civic Association will hold its annual candlelight walk and remembrance at the 9/11 Memorial Park on Sound Avenue and Park Road. The walk begins at 5:45 p.m., followed by the ceremony at 6 p.m.
