About Robert David Bennett
Capt. Bennett, a career Air Force Pilot who loved flying to the core of his soul. He was in the 1st Air Commando Group, Detachment 2A, 2nd Air Division, 13th Air Force, participating in Operation FarmGate, code named “Jungle Jim,” a covert and classified mission in Vietnam in the early 1960’s. Awards: a purple heart, flying cross and a street on the flight-line at Hurlburt field named after him.
A career man, a family man who was funny and down to earth.
Richard Cooke, a fellow USAF man wrote this to me: He was a good man, a very decent man and treated everyone with respect,
and he was admired and respected by everyone that knew him. He was a pilots pilot, he really enjoyed flying and it showed. To watch him fly
an airplane was a pleasure.
His legacy was he was a hero, as a father and Air Commando devoted to keeping America free. His letters always mentioned preserving our way of life and fighting the insurgency of communism around the world as well as ever reaching our shores. He gave the ultimate scarifice and paid for our freedom with his blood. May his devotion never be taken for granted or forgotten.
