Private First Class Lee L. Parker Jr. served as a BAR gunner with Baker Company, 24th Marines, 4th Marine Division from 1942 to 1944. He fought in battles at Roi-Namur and Saipan, where he earned a Purple Heart after surviving a gunshot wound to the head. Known for his precision and bravery, he was deeply committed to his fellow Marines.
Parker was a man of resilience, quiet strength and unwavering integrity. After his injury, he recovered with the support of his mother and his future wife, Ophelia Krentz. His humility and sense of duty carried through his life, shaping his service and inspiring those who knew him.
Married in 1945, Parker built a life rooted in love, family and community. He passed away on December 30, 1998, due to complications from his war injuries, and was laid to rest at Quantico National Cemetery. He left behind his wife, two daughters, and a legacy of courage, service, and perseverance.
