Senior Airman James Douglas Cathey, United States Air Force veteran, served as a flight crew chief working on A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft in Alaska. He took pride in maintaining aircraft readiness and supporting mission success before medically retiring to battle service related cancer. Even after leaving active duty, he remained committed to serving others through mentorship, teaching and supporting those around him.
James was known for his kindness, humor and generous spirit. He never met a stranger and had a gift for making people feel welcome. He loved the outdoors, learning and helping others, and was deeply devoted to his family, bringing joy, laughter and steady encouragement into everyday life.
His legacy is one of love, resilience and selflessness. Through his wife, Sharon, his sons, Clayton and Douglas, and all who knew him. His example endures, showing how to live with purpose, care for others and to never give up.
