About Edward Scott Richardson

Master Public Safety Officer Edward Scott Richardson attended Aiken High and the University of South Carolina, Aiken. He began his career with Aiken Public Safety in 1999 as a Cadet, worked his way to a Driver Operator position, and then became a Public Safety Officer in 2005. Richardson was shot and killed after he and another officer stopped a suspicious vehicle.

Scotty was an exceptional police officer and an even better person. Most police officers learn the job as they go, and some naturally understand to concept of actually helping the citizens in the community they serve. Scotty was the natural type with a great moral compass and ability to talk to people. The same character that made him a great person and father, also made him an excellent officer.

“The times we all live have changed but not all people have. There are still people in all careers that do the job for the satisfaction of the bigger picture not just a paycheck. Scotty was one of those. He did his job to better his community and do what he could to help those in need,” recalled friend Robert Tennant.
