About Earnest F. Oldham
Earnest “Earnie” Oldham’s career began at Garland PD in 1987. In 1992 he started at Plano PD as a Patrolman. In Plano, he worked as an SRO and as a Motor Officer and Accident Reconstructionist. He was promoted to Sergeant and then Lieutenant. He served as a Lt in CID and Patrol. Lt. Oldham’s final years were spent proudly in Patrol leading his brave crew.
Lt. Oldham was a supervisor like no other. He believed in respect and true “police work”. He was known for his wit, knowledge, extensive experience, critical thinking and ability to make a quick decision, while focusing on the moral and ethical issues. He held his crew to a high standard and stood strong behind them, especially in the face of adversity. He died from complications of COVID-19.
Earnie’s legacy will always be his caring for those he lead and those he worked with. He was known as “An Officer’s Lieutenant”, which is also inscribed on his headstone. His daily goal was to ensure that his crew made it safely home to their families at the end of every shift. He will be sorely missed by all that knew him, especially his wife, Kelli, and twin children, Jeremy and Natali.
