Corporal Bruce Matthew Hurt enlisted in the United States Marine Corps September 1968 and served in Vietnam as a rifleman, earning the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross. Honorably discharged in 1974, he later faced the lasting effects of Agent Orange exposure related to his service.
Bruce was a devoted son, husband, father, and grandfather. He was a proud veteran, writer, motorcycle enthusiast, softball fan, and bedtime singer of his song “Dog named Frog”. Every year, he collected countless toys throughout the year, to donate to Toys for Tots at Christmas.
Bruce will be remembered as an avid humanitarian servant who endlessly devoted his heart, spirit, time, and money to uplift countless individuals, organizations, foundations, drives, and hospitals. And through his greatest joy of all – his daily random acts of kindness, that he said had a singular goal of, “Just wanting to make someone smile.”
