About Brett Petriken

Staff Sergeant Brett Petriken was a Military Police Officer with the U.S. Army. He was deployed with the 501st Military Police Company, 1st Armored Division, based in Wiesbaden, Germany. Petriken was killed in Samawah, Iraq after a heavy equipment transporter crossed the median and struck his Humvee.

Known for his quiet strength and dedication, Brett was a steady presence among his peers—a “big teddy bear” who loved his wife and daughter and his Detroit Lions. Friends and family remember him as humble, loyal, and deeply committed to those he served with.

Petriken’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the service he gave. He was honored in Flint and at Arlington National Cemetery with solemn tributes and lasting gratitude. His courage and sacrifice continue to inspire those who knew him and those who carry on the mission he served with honor.
