About Laurence Dean Miller

Staff Sergeant Laurence D. Miller joined the U.S. Airforce the day after graduating high school in 1977. He served thirteen years, most recently with the 1st Special Operations Squadron attached to the 17th Special Operations Squadron, 353rd Special Operations Wing, as the Maintenance Crew Chief on the C-130 aircraft. He was involved in multiple classified rescue missions. He died unexpectedly in the line of duty at Kadena Air Force Base Okinawa, Japan and is now buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

In addition to being a great leader and a distinguished soldier, Larry was a genuine person who cared about others. People were drawn to him and his magnetic personality. “He was always there for you,” recalled his sister Rena Mason.

Laurence Miller served his country with honor until his last day. He was awarded the Air Force Achievement Medal for his ceaseless effort and untiring personal sacrifices, reflecting honor on himself and the United States Air Force.
