About James Charles "Boz" Boswell

Officer James Boswell of the Houston Police Department was fatally shot during a traffic stop on December 9, 1989, by a man claiming to be a DEA informant. The suspect was later convicted of murder and executed in 2002. “Boz” served five years and was survived by his parents, sister, and three brothers.

“Jim was compassionate, friendly to everyone and just a great guy to know,” recalls Houston Police Department Officer Richard Brown, an academy classmate.

Officer Boswell was admired and respected by his fellow officers and left a legacy of bravery and dedication. Senior Police Officer R. Pedraza remembers Boz for his photographic memory, exceptional skills in identifying suspects, and dedication to law enforcement. His abilities and charisma left a lasting impression, making him unforgettable to his colleagues.
