About Claude Wayne “Sandwich” Standridge

Sergeant Claude Wayne Sandridge was a United States Army Air Force WWll veteran and served with the Dallas Police Department. He succumbed to gunshot wounds he received during a traffic stop in Dallas, Texas. He was survived by his daughter, son, two granddaughters, and a grandson.

Sergeant Standridge #1069 demonstrated several heroic qualities throughout his life and career. First, courage, as evidenced by the 1972 incident where he was shot multiple times during a traffic stop. Second, dedication, as demonstrated by the fact that he returned to work and served for another 18 years, despite being shot in the face, stomach, and arm.

In July 2023, 25 years after his death, the Dallas Police Department honored Sergeant Standridge with full burial honors, acknowledging his death as a line-of-duty death. This recognition was a significant moment for his family and the department, as it marked the first time in the department’s history that an officer was honored posthumously 25 years after their death.
