Relay to honor nation’s heroes passes through Cleveland, Northeast Ohio

CLEVELAND — CLEVELAND — A few dozen people walked through Northeast Ohio on Monday, despite the rain, to show support for our nation’s heroes and never forget those who gave their lives for our country.

The Midwest ‘Carry The Load’ relay team is on their tenth day of the 24-day journey to Dallas.

“The purpose of ‘Carry The Load’ is keeping the true meaning of Memorial Day in our minds,” says Marine Corp Veteran Rick Peacor.

Peacor says the trek is to honor the men and women that have given the ultimate sacrifice in order for others to have their freedom. Peacor told 3News that he plans to march 10 miles each day while he takes part in the relay.

“It’s not about barbecues or family get togethers, it’s actually about paying homage, honor to those that fought for our country, military and first responders,” Peacor said.

Carry The Load has 100 rallies taking place throughout 48 states this year.

“We cover 3,800 miles, we cover 24 days, we start in Minneapolis wind our way down and meet the other five relays in Dallas,” Midwest relay manager Mike Golden said.

The Midwest group will march through Columbus on Tuesday and are scheduled to get to Dallas on May 29.
