About Sean Henry Miles

Sergeant Sean H. Miles joined the Marine Corps in October 1996. On January 24, 2006, while assigned as an infantry squad leader to Co. E, 2d Bn, 2d Marines, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Sgt. Miles was killed in action while conducting combat operations by leaving cover and saving the life of a fellow Marine. For this he was awarded the Bronze Star w/Combat V for valor, posthumously. Sean gave his life for what he loved and what he grew up wanting to be, a U.S. Marine.

Above all, Sean was the cherished husband of Genevieve and devoted father to Tyler. In addition to his family, Sean loved his friends and fellow Marines with his whole heart. A large part of his legacy is the host of military and civilian friends who, along with his family, will keep his spirit alive by telling his stories and living their lives through his example of self-sacrifice.

Sean was a Marine’s Marine and the epitome of a Marine NCO and Sergeant. He was respected to the utmost by all in his charge, including his peers and superiors alike. For those that he served with and knew him, he was THE example and set the standard of how to be a Marine.

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” John 1:13. Semper Fidelis.
