YARDLEY, PA —They will “carry the load” once again.
Mayor Chris Harding is asking the public to come out Wednesday to welcome Carry The Load to the borough.
“I am honored to announce that Yardley Boro will again be welcoming the Carry The Load organization to our community,” Harding said.” We are excited to participate in the effort to restore meaning back to Memorial Day, and to provide opportunities for Americans to connect with the sacrifices of our military, law enforcement, firefighters, and rescue personnel.”
Harding is inviting residents to the Yardley Boro Veterans Monument for the 2024 rally from 3:15 p.m. to 4 p.m. The borough is officially promoting the walking segment.
“We will cheer the Carry The Load walkers as they continue their trek through Pennsylvania and onto Texas,” the mayor said.
The walk is departing from Washington Crossing at 2 p.m. and making the 4-mile walk to Yardley.
The Yardley Borough Police Department will have temporary detours in place in the area of Delaware and East Afton Avenues.
Police ask residents to plan alternate routes and expect delays from 2 p.m. until about 4:30 p.m.
The mayor asks that individuals or groups interested in walking should contact him.
Harding said he will also answer any questions or make special arrangements for people to attend.
Carry The Load is a 4,500-mile relay that will pass through Bucks County on its way to Dallas. The trek began at West Point, N.Y., and brings awareness “to the true meaning of Memorial Day,” the organization states.
Founded by Veteran U.S. Navy SEALs, Clint Bruce and Stephen Holley, Carry The Load started as a mission to restore the true meaning of Memorial Day.
Today, it has grown to include more than just the nation’s military heroes and more than just one holiday. Carry The Load works to bring all Americans together to participate in honoring the nation’s heroes every day.
