Specialist Tristan Caleb Smith joined the Army in response to the fallen firefighters on 911. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. He deployed to Taji, Iraq in 2005, where he was killed by an IED, along with three other soldiers.
Tristan believed strongly in a life of service. He was an active member of the local Boy Scout’s troop, and an active volunteer with the Bryn Athyn Fire Company and ambulance. He was also called to volunteer with SWET, an organization that helps men live lives of service and integrity.
Tristan carried a second set of dog tags that read, “Si Vivo, vivo in Domino. Si Morior, morior in Domino,” which translates from the Latin to, “If I live, I live in the Lord. If I die, I die in the Lord.”
