Corporal Stephen Craig Briese was drafted by the Army and sent to South Vietnam in June of 1970. He served as an infantryman with the 1st Cavalry Division. PFC Briese was killed on August 8, 1970, when his nighttime defensive position came under attack by enemy forces in the Long Khanh Province. He was posthumously promoted to Corporal.
Cpl. Briese earned many accommodations during his service, including Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge, Marksmanship Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Army Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Gallantry Cross, and Army Good Conduct Medal. While his time in the Army was short, his impact was great.
Stephen is a hero and is always to be remembered, especially on Memorial Day.
