Samuel Christopher McCutcheon
Fallen Hero’s Hometown and State: Cleveland, Ohio
Branch of Service: United States Army
Rank: Specialist
Specialist Samuel McCutcheon was stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord and deployed to Afghanistan in 2017. After being wounded and hospitalized in Kabul, Germany, and at his home base, all he could think about was returning to his brothers and sisters on that combat outpost in Sperwan Ghar. McCutcheon successfully completed his four years of service. He died from a PTSD related drug overdose.
Throughout Sammy’s life he was a fiercely dedicated friend and soldier. He would light up any room with a smile and a listening shoulder for everyone. Sammy played baseball, football and wrestled most of his school age years—a true competitor in life. His greatest attribute was his dedication to his Brothers and Sisters who wore that sacred uniform.
“Sammy said to me once while deployed, Dad it’s not always about serving your country. For me, it’s about serving each other up here on this combat outpost. It’s just what we do,” recalled his father, Christopher McCutcheon. “For me, his Dad, it’s about lives given, not taken. He will be forever 29 and always in our hearts. We miss you Pal.”
