Philip entered the army right out of high school in 2010. He attended Army Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Benning, GA. He was stationed to the Joint Base Lewis-McChord base and was assigned to the 1st Battlion, 23rd Infantrry Regiment, 3rd Styker Brigade Combat Team 2nd Infantry Division in Washington. Philip was deployed to Kandahar Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation Eduring Freedom in March 2012. On April 11, 2012 he was killed in the line of duty when his unit was attacked by small-arms fire and he continued to protect the soldiers in his unit . He continued to fight even aer he was mortally wounded. Philip’s awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and Combat Infantryman Badge.
Philip had so many wonderful qualities. Even though he was his sister, Courtney’s, little brother, he was her big brother whom she loved so very much. His smile and laughter were infectious and would always say, “I love you more”. Philip would give you the shirt off his back and stand beside you no matter what. He was so full of life and took things head on, that’s just who he was.
Philip was a family man and cherished us all. He was the best friend of all who knew him. His unselfish act of protecting his country has been felt throughtout the world. You are forever loved but not forgotten.
