Fallen Hero’s Hometown and State: Plant City, FL
Branch of Service: United States Army
Rank: Pfc.
Private First Class Paul O. Cuzzupe II served in the U.S. Army as a medic with 3rd Platoon, Ghostrider Company, 3rd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Calvary Regiment based out of Vilseck, Germany. He died of wounds sustained when his Stryker ran over an improvised explosive device in Akhtar-Mohammed-Khan, Afghanistan.
Affectionately known as “Care Bear” by his fellow medics, Paul was known for his kindness, witty sense of humor, charm, and good looks. But what most people don’t know is how patriotic he was. While in Basic Combat Training, he wrote in a letter, “There is no other path, this is my destiny.”
His awards include the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Good Conduct, and an Army Commendation Medal for a mass casualty event that occurred mid tour, in which he tried to save the life of an Afghan child. Paul’s family also presented his Degree in Bachelor of Arts in Memoriam from Saint Leo University posthumously.
