Nick Hopkins
Fallen Hero’s Hometown and State: Waterloo, IL
Branch of Service: United States Law Enforcement
Rank: Trooper
Nick Hopkins was an Illinois State Trooper for 10 years. Out of the academy, he served as a road trooper which later led into investigations. Nick soon joined the MEPAT division which eventually lead him into his favorite and final position within the State police, South SWAT. He was fatally struck by gunfire serving a search warrant.
Nick was the ultimate small town hero. He grew up one of six children in a loving supportive family. He was athletic and loved challenging runs, bike rides, and fitness challenges. Nick was always stealing the show with his positive energy, confident attitude, and impressive dance moves. He married his high school sweetheart and loved his kids more than anything in the world.
In his 33 years, Nick managed to live a full life, always stopping to help or share a kindness. Making memories is what Nick did best. He smiled big and found time to make people feel important. His legacy (other than the obvious being his kiddos) is a quote he lived out every day, “You cannot do a kindness too soon because you never know how soon it will be too late.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson.
