Matthew Piazza

Fallen Hero’s Hometown and State: Tully, NY

Branch of Service: United States Army

Rank: Major

Major Matthew Piazza served for 11 years in the Army. He graduated from VMI where he played lacrosse and commissioned as a 2nd Lt. logistics officer. He deployed to Afghanistan with the 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, and then to Europe with the 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson where he also worked alongside the 10th Special Forces Group. His final assignment was with the Joint Task force at Red Hill on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Known to most as “Matty P,” he was a husband, father, son, brother and friend. Anyone who met him would leave with a story of something funny/crazy– one you would never forget. His passion ran deep for family, his country, skiing the tallest mountains, and Joe Rogan podcasts. His sons Bode and Lyle show his compassion, hard work, and respect. “Daily, we know his presence is with us,” recalled his wife, Megan.

Knowing Matt, you would expect nothing short of Red, White, and Blue, with patriotic songs playing in the background, living life to the fullest, and being the life of the party. Matt was a true American soldier. He wore his uniform proudly and loved defending the good ‘ole U.S.A. He might not have always done it by the book, but “getting his hands dirty” with his soldiers always got the job done. Truly, one in a million!
