Matthew Joskowitz
Fallen Hero’s Hometown and State: Fairview, NJ
Branch of Service: United States Army
Rank: Staff Sergeant
Staff Sergeant Matthew Joskowitz joined the Army straight out of high school, serving five years. He gave up a scholarship to college, where he would have wrestled, to follow his dream of serving his country. That was the kind of person he was. Matthew deployed to Afghanistan in 2017 with the 82nd Airborne Division. He tragically passed away in 2019 at Fort Bragg.
Before joining the Army, Matthew was an outstanding wrestler where he excelled immensely. He continued to use the talent he had as a combative fighter in the Army. Matthew was the humblest person, though he excelled at anything and everything he put his mind to.
Matthew had a huge heart. Not only was he a solider, but he was also a loving son and the most wonderful big brother. For as long as she can remember, his sister has admired who he is and has deemed him as her “hero.” He loved his New York Yankees and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. “Play like a champion today,” is surely a trait Matthew embodied. His joy and laughter are missed every day.
