Sergeant Louis Torres was a decorated soldier who joined the Army right after graduating from Lorain County Joint Vocation School in Oberlin, Ohio. While at JVS he played football and took classes in law enforcement and security. Torres belonged to a conventional infantry unit that trained to work with Special Operations Forces in Afghanistan by guarding outposts and supporting raids.
He joined the Army in June 2008 and had been with Lewis-McChord units since October of that year. He served with the 3rd Brigade in Iraq from August 2009 to June 2010 – one of the last combat brigades to fight there. He died of wounds suffered caused by an improvised explosive device in Kandahar.
Louis was known as an outgoing and kind-hearted individual, and a natural leader. His family is very proud of him.
