A distinguished high school football player who graduated from Lexington High School in 1990. Graduated from Davidson College in 1994 with a degree in Studio Art then went on to pursue a master’s degree in Architecture at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Harris decided he was going to become a SEAL and enlisted in the Navy in August of 2000 just under the cut off age of 29. Serving with SEAL Team 10 Josh distinguished himself on multiple deployments supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. Josh went on to complete training and selection to join the Naval Special Warfare Development Group. During his career, Harris received a Bronze Star medal, a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat “V” (Valor) Device, a Joint Service Commendation Medal with Combat “V” (Valor) device among numerous others. Josh Harris died while conducting combat operations in Afghanistan. Josh is described by his mother as a “Renaissance Man”. “Josh always wanted to be the best and brightest especially in things that helped people. He believed he was fighting for our freedom and fighting terrorism, with all of his heart.” It is reported that before Josh would ship out each time he would tell his father “if anything happens to me, realize that I was doing exactly what I wanted to be doing.”
