Jessica Hollis
Fallen Hero’s Hometown and State: Pflugerville, TX
Branch of Service: United States Law Enforcement
Rank: Senior Deputy
Senior Deputy Jessica Hollis served with the Travis County Sheriff’s Office for seven years and was a member of the agency’s Dive Team. She drowned after her patrol car washed away as she checked roadways for high water during a period of heavy rain. She was upstream from Lake Austin when her patrol car was washed into the river. Her body was recovered from Lake Austin on September 19, 2014.
Jessica truly had a servant’s heart. She simply wanted to serve the vulnerable, whether that was the people she served at work as a paramedic and law enforcement officer, a turtle slowly crossing the road for whom she blocked an intersection, or the countless stray animals she brought home. She never stopped serving until the very end!
Jessica’s legacy lives on through the work of Operation Get Out, whose mission is to help people use nature and water for positive mental and physical wellness. Her passion for helping others was unmatched and fuels our hearts to keep her memory and legacy alive. Certainly, the peace and joy she found in nature are felt by those who visit the precious waters of Lake Austin at Jessica Hollis Park.
