Edward J. Walsh Jr.
Fallen Hero’s Hometown and State: Boston, MA
Branch of Service: Fire and Rescue
Rank: Lieutenant
Lieutenant Edward Walsh joined the Boston Fire Department in 2004 and was appointed to Ladder 15 in the Back Bay. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2012 and worked his way back to his beloved L15 and E33. Walsh was killed when he became trapped in the basement of a multi-unit residential building during a 9-alarm fire in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood.
Ed was a devoted husband and loving father. His warm smile and quick wit put everyone at ease. He had a big heart and a giving spirit, and he treated everyone with respect. Ed was respected and admired by all who worked with him, and friends surrounded him wherever he went. With his upbeat personality and positive attitude, he brought out the best in everyone.
Whether coaching, volunteering, or working at the YMCA, Ed always helped children, families, and his community. His life was devoted to serving others, but his greatest joy was being the proud father of Dillon, Morgan, and Griffin. His spirit will never be extinguished, and Ed lives on with all the family and friends who loved him.
