Staff Sergeant David Able was wounded in combat in May of 1967 but set-up a rescue of his men who had been ambushed. He crawled out to rescue the radio operator after he was wounded, called for an evacuation helicopter, and helped load before boarding himself. He received the Silver Star for his actions that day and a Bronze Star for the day he was killed.

“Abe”, as he was called, is remembered by his family and all those who served with him in Charlie Company. He was one of those few who showed no fear and pursued the enemy with no thought of personal concern to himself.
