Carlos Ernesto Chalacan Valenzuela
Fallen Hero’s Hometown and State: Peyton, Colorado
Branch of Service: United States Army
Rank: Master Sergeant
Master Sergeant Carlos Ernesto Chalacan Valenzuela served for 26 years in the U.S. Army, including with the Colorado National Guard. He was a hero, a soldier, and a mentor to many. He led by example and was dedicated to his soldiers and friends. He served three tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. MSG Chalacan traveled all over Colorado helping fellow soldiers, even writing many training manuals for which he received numerous awards and medals including the Bronze Star.
Carlos’ commitment to his work was matched only by his love of soccer and his willingness to try new things. But above all, his love and dedication was to his family; his children, Kristen and Tyler. He played hard, worked hard, and always strived to be his best self.
His mother recalled, “He had a great heart, a willingness to help others, a love of life, and most importantly, Carlos was my sunshine and strength.”
