Special Operations Chief Aaron C. Vaughn completed many deployments around the world, including several combat deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq as a team member of SEAL Team One, then ultimately, SEAL Team VI. Vaughn died when his CH-47 helicopter was shot down in Wardak province Afghanistan.

Vaughn was awarded the Joint Service Achievement Medal with Valor, Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Valor, Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism (Service) Medal, Global War on Terrorism (Expeditionary) Medal, Purple Heart, Defense Meritorious Service and the Bronze Star Medal with Valor.

In the wake of Aaron’s death, his family created the nonprofit, Operation 300, which honors him by providing mentorship to children of the fallen through weekend-long adventure camps, where kids can do the kinds of things they might have done with their fathers, were they still here. Aaron was also an actor in the now-famous film, Act of Valor.
