Public invited to Carry The Load in honor of fallen military, first responders
FARGO — The public is invited to walk with Carry The Load’s national relay through Fargo this month to honor and remember fallen military and first responders.
The event kicks off at noon, Wednesday, May 15, in Oak Grove Park at 170 Maple St. N.
Other stops include Fargo Fire Station No. 4 at 2701 First Ave. N., at 1:30 p.m., and Scheels Home and Hardware at 3202 13th Ave. S. at 2:30 p.m.
The event continues on to western North Dakota, with stops in Bismarck and Mandan that evening.
Since 2011, Carry The Load’s mission to restore the true meaning of Memorial Day has grown into a nationwide movement, the nonprofit said in a news release.
The monthlong event involves five routes covering 20,000 miles, 48 states and 69 community events, including 33 Department of Veterans Affairs national cemeteries to honor and remember those who have died for freedom. It wraps up in Dallas on Memorial Day weekend.
Carry The Load raises funds to help with challenges military, veterans, first responders and their families face, the release said.
People of all ages can register for free to walk, attend a community event and fundraise by visiting carrytheload.org/memorial-may.
