On May 25 during Memorial Day weekend, Hunt County will once again be on the path of Carry The Load, an annual walk with the mission of raising awareness of America’s veterans, especially those who died in the line of duty or took their own lives due to PTSD or other struggles.
Carry The Load is a nationwide event that started coming through Greenville 10 years ago as part of the walk’s East Coast Relay, which moves from West Point, New York to Dallas, Texas.
In addition to supporting the country’s military veterans, the walk also honors first responders.
Carry The Load is a non-profit that was founded by a group of former Navy Seals to raise funds and awareness for both veterans and their surviving families.
The founders, in particular, designed the event with hopes of reminding communities of the meaning of Memorial Day.
So far, at least two locations in Greenville will be set up for those who would like to show the walkers their support and cheer them on. Those locations are Academy Sports at 3204 Interstate Highway 30 and Gibson Automotive at 2600 Interstate Highway 30.
The walk is expected to pass through Greenville sometime in the afternoon that day, with Gibson Automotive estimating around 2:15 p.m. and Academy estimating some time between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
